A native of Southern California, John has participated in San Juan Bautista civic and community activities since 2002. Wanting to make a positive impact on the city’s water, he was elected to the city council in 2016. Previously, he served on the Strategic Planning Committee, coached basketball at San Juan School, served on the policy board of the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments (AMBAG), and on the Board of Directors of Central Coast Community Power. He was also President of San Benito County’s Integrated Waste Management Commission from 2020 to 2024 and isa member of the Bay Area Environmental Safety Group (BAESG). John is a specialist in hazardous waste removal, disposal, and remediation with 20 years of experience in Industrial Water Treatment and he looks forward to working with the Board on water issues that affect San Benito County.
Here is a list of some of John's Accomplishments:
1. John pushed the city to address its high nitrate issue in its drinking water. Soon we will be importing water from the County’s water board treatment plants, Higher quality water will eliminate fines from the EPA.
2. John helped the city implement the new sewer line to the Hollister treatment plant. Also eliminates fines from the EPA.
3. John invited two Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to provide highspeed broadband for both the city and the county at a lower cost.
4. John implanted a pavement management system and the city has repaved many of its roads. Used SB1 and Measure G money to do this.
5. John had a joint powers agreement implemented with the school district to open the basketball and Volleyball courts at San Juan School.
6.John authored the city's Code of Ethics for our officials and led our council in adopting them, to improve transparency.
7.John helped pass the Cannabis Tax for our city to improve our incredibly poor tax base.
8. John championed the anti-plastics shopping bag ban
9. John passed a no-smoking ordinance in exterior eating areas (patios) in San Juan Bautista restaurants.
10. John introduced and passed a statute implementing the California Uniform Construction Cost Accounting Act, allowing us to lower the price of bidding for construction projects.
John strived to make sure the City of San Juan Bautista council is active and guided the city to improve its aging infrastructure with a positive agenda.
